What we do

We provide digital infrastructure into multiple dwelling units (MDU’s) across public sector, social housing associations and private landlords. As one of the leading independent companies that delivered the UK’s Digital Switchover programme, we have installed and upgraded over 300,000 homes with state of the art Integrated Reception Systems (IRS).

Today, we install infrastructure including fibre (FTTP/IRS) in new build units, upgrade and maintain digital and analogue systems across the UK. Our client base includes some of the largest local authority and social housing landlords alongside more specialised sectors like Emergency Services. For these and more, our teams manage and advise on a wide range of property portfolios.

Our Bristol based Helpdesk provides a knowledgeable team with experience in dealing with a wide range of client and tenant needs. Services provided to tenants include Sky, Sky +, Sky HD, Sky Q, Freesat HD, Freeview, DAB & FM radio and Broadband. In the field, we employ one of the best commissioning teams in the country with great customer facing skills; dealing with Tenant Liaison, working around special needs residents including elderly and vulnerable.

Broadband for MDU’s

Despite being situated throughout many of the largest cities in the UK, MDU buildings, especially larger tower blocks have some of the poorest broadband availability and penetration in the UK. When you overlay the social benefits offered by decent broadband against MDU demographics, there is a clear issue in providing vital broadband services to some of the more disadvantaged parts of the UK population.

Avonline was the first technology provider to offer broadband designed for use with existing IRS digital infrastructure using a unique broadband over copper coax, designed to complement the recent investment in digital IRS upgrades. This means a low cost per unit upgrade with minimal resident disruption and maximum use of existing investment.

Our IRSNetTM technology means that the core hardware including modem function remains at the head-end. The upgrade in the premise can be as little as 5 minutes to change a faceplate. The design also includes simple head-end-to-head-end connection using Ethernet cabling within existing riser infrastructure for the simplest upgrade path.

Contractors & Housing Developers

Avonline can provide a range of flexible services to main contractors and developers. Designing and delivering state of the art wiring infrastructure for TV, satellite, superfast broadband and integrating services like CCTV & door entry for new build. For existing properties, we offer upgrade and maintenance programmes.

As more regulation is implemented for rental property, Avonline has the scale and flexibility to work with you on all IRS aspects impacted by building improvement programmes for existing or newly acquired property. These include :-

  • Building refurbishment and removal of redundant wiring and TV aerial infrastructure;
  • Environmental improvement programmes including External Wall Insulation (EWI), cladding and window replacements;
  • Energy efficiency audits and hardware replacement programmes to deliver reduced Total Cost of Ownership (energy and maintenance).

Managing Agents

Working with Managing Agents, our remit is usually to enhance resident services or to step-in where infrastructure and service levels have been below requirements and a high quality maintenance programme and/or system upgrade is required.

We offer value through property audits, IRS.

Private Landlords

Typically, our work with private landlords covers smaller property portfolios, from single buildings converted into multiple dwellings for domestic or business use through to companies with significant property portfolios.

Like our public-sector work, we will consult, design and build Integrated Reception Systems including fibre-based solutions to provide the latest technologies efficiently and cost-effectively to tenants. A good quality IRS can add value to new build and improve rental values when delivered as an upgrade programme.

Local Authority & Social Housing Landlords

With around 4.1m social homes in the UK, connecting tenants to modern and beneficial Digital Aerial systems via Integrated Reception Systems is a fundamental responsibility for Local Authority and Social Housing Landlords. It is also an investment that requires knowledgeable planning, quality delivery and proactive maintenance to deliver long-term value.

That’s where we come in. Our team has almost 20 years of experience connecting over 300,000 tenants in multiple dwelling units (MDU’s). Our strength is derived from working collaboratively with a wide range of customers supporting an even wider spectrum of tenants across portfolios that range from a few hundred units to tens of thousands.

Bristol City Council

Our relationship stretches back over 15 years. We have worked with them on their owned duct network (audit, extension & development) our longest running programme has been the 5 wire upgrade and subsequent maintenance of 13,000 MDU properties. More recently, we have completed an extensive Sky Q Head-end upgrade programme.

Southwark Housing

Avonline was selected to deliver a complex upgrade programme covering 3,000 listed properties, mostly sited within a conservation area. Our teams delivered a 9-wire IRS system, which was followed by a reactive option maintenance contract.

Sanctuary Housing

With around 100,000 homes in England and Scotland, Sanctuary Housing is one of the UK’s leading social landlords. Avonline has upgraded 25,000 MDU’s with 5-wire IRS and commenced Sky Q head-end upgrade in Q2 ’17.

Bolton At Home

As a registered Charity, Bolton At Home manages over 18,000 homes. Avonline was selected to upgrade 10,000 MDU’s with 5-wire IRS. Since the upgrade we have provided a continued Maintenance Programme that offers a blend of a selected pro-active programme plus reactive support to an agreed SLA. We have recently completed a Sky Q upgrade programme to all blocks.

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

Working with a great local team, Avonline upgraded 12,000 MDU’s with 5 wire IRS across a24 month programme. This was followed with a maintenance programme and, more recently, the completion of a Sky Q head-end upgrade.

Hackney Borough Council

Our biggest single IRS programme covering 30,000 properties. We originally installed a 13-wire system and have subsequently worked continuously on the portfolio, recently being awarded a new long-term maintenance programme alongside delivering a selective fibre upgrade project.
